...These Are The Days.....

……for my friends from back in the day; Paul and Brian……high school friends…..back then we thought the world revolved around us….time had this odd way of standing still…..and now that we are all in different parts of the States……a simple email will bring me right back to those days………

Sometimes I get to feelin'
I was back in the old days - long ago
When we were kids when we were young
Thing seemed so perfect - you know
The days were endless we were crazy we were young
The sun was always shinin' - we just lived for fun
Sometimes it seems like lately - I just don't know
The rest of my life's been just a show

Rest In Peace, Brad Delp.....

It is a very sad day for rock and roll today;

Brad Delp, lead singer for the band Boston, died last night in his home.

The debut album, self-titled Boston, is to this day, one of my all time favorite albums. From beginning to end, it is solid, fun, and will always bring great memories back when I was growing up in rural South Dakota.
Despite the lyrics, we will never forget you when you are gone.....

Foreplay/Longtime
Its been such a long time

I think I should be goin, yeah
And time doesnt wait for me, it keeps on rollin
Sail on, on a distant highway
Ive got to keep on chasin a dream
Ive gotta be on my way
Wish there was something I could say.

Well Im takin my time, Im just movin on
Youll forget about me after Ive been gone
And I take what I find, I dont want no more
Its just outside of your front door.

Its been such a long time. its been such a long time.

Well I get so lonely when I am without you
But in my mind, deep in my mind,
I cant forget about you
Good times, and faces that remind me
Im tryin to forget your name and leave it all behind me
Youre comin back to find me.

Well Im takin my time, Im just movin on
Youll forget about me after iv e been gone
And I take what I find, I dont want no more
Its just outside of y our front door.

Its been such a long time. its been such a long time.

Yeah. its been such a long time, I think I should be goin, yeah
And time dosnt wait for me, it keeps on rollin
Theres a long road, Ive gotta stay in time with
Ive got to keep on chasin that dream, though I may never find it
Im always just behind it.

Well Im takin my time, Im just movin along
Takin my time, just movin along
Takin my time, takin my time...

Got Empire?

For the few of you who actually are uber cool enough to visit my blog, I had a few people ask about posting some of the lines from Empire Records. Ask and ye shall receive!!  If you haven’t seen it, you should!

Oh Rexy, you're soooooo sexy!!

IF YOU WANT BLOOD!!!

YOU GOT IT!!!

I really think Musictown is torn on the revealing garment issue.

No visible tattoo’s

No revealing clothing….

Oh come now, with your never ending flesh mutilating tattoo’s and your neo nazi hair do

The boys are sure to come a runnin

Mitchell's the man Joe.

And the man calls all the shots

Damn the man.

Let me explain it to you. Mitchell's the man. I'm the idiot. You're the screw-up. And we're all losers. Welcome to music town.

ALWAYS mess with their minds

You did have hair when you went in there, right?

Yeah. It's still in the sink, if you want to glue it.

MY NAME’S NOT FU*CKING WARREN

Well Shanade O'rebellion. Shock me, shock me, shock me with that deviant behavior.

That is so clever. I swear you get smarter the shorter your skirt gets.

Attention Rex Manning fans, to your left you will notice a shoplifter being chased by night manager, Lucas. This young man will be caught, deep fried in a vat of hot oil and served to our first hundred customers. Just another tasty treat from the gang at Empire Records.

To the 'Extreme'.....

What is up rockers and rolla's!!? So it was a great weekend! Some highlights:

  • As the Mrs. and I were heading out to get a bite to eat, I was channel surfing (as I am programmed genetically to do). I stopped on 'Extreme Makeover' on ABC. My betrothed says to me without skipping a beat "why the hell are you watching 'The Crying Show'? I bust out laughing. She so pegged that right. Name one time when you watched that show and didn't shed a tear because little Johnny now has a play room where before he shared it with like 17 other siblings and 3 dogs and 6 cats. There is nothing really 'extreme' about it, is there?
  • 3 words; ANDREW DICE F-ING CLAY!! OOOOHHHHHHHHHHHhhhh. He is BACK! VH1 has his show of his return to the comedy world. He is a bit eccentric...a bit neurotic.....but he is ALL DICE, ALL THE TIME!
  • I caught a flick suggested to me from an awesome friend at work. She and I have great conversations about music and movies and what is 'in' and what is 'out'. I think one day we had an email banter over some great lines in Empire Records. 1) most people wouldn't even know that movie let alone 2) be able to rattle off great lines from that flick. Rent this movie now. But I digress. The movie she suggested was Waiting. Think of all the TGI Mc Friday Chevy's-esque places. This is a very smart humorous peek into that world. Another must see. There WILL be a test.
  • Said friend above will give me a load of shit about this next bit, but I am anxiously awaiting the release of Tommy Shaw (Styx/Damn Yankees) and Jack Blades (Night Ranger/Damn Yankees) called Influence. They give a tip of the chapeau to many great artists and songs. It reminds me of going to see Jeff and Mark play. They did a great version of "Your Move" by Yes on VH1.
  • and the BEST news for me this weekend; I am getting the voiceover website going full steam ahead! check it out here
All right....so all in all...a great weekend! Hope you reading this enjoy it as much as I like venting. Leave comments and tell your friends to log in. I will also try to get the podcast updated more regularly.......and last.....this comic is for the Drunk Drama Queen and the Queen of Dysfunction:

Be good.....Dad and Mom....love you guys.....

I was looking over my posts and realized that I haven’t ever mentioned not only 2 of my best pals from back home, but 2 of the most talented musicians EVER ANYWHERE (yes, deal with that James Blunt and your “I’m Beautiful” hack of a song).

The Cartwright Brothers are an enigma. They are something you can’t really fully explain, it has to be experienced. It is kind of like going to a Rocky Horror Picture Show movie viewing in a theater. You could try to describe the experience to your best friend, but it would NEVER compare to being there.
Think of some of the best music in your life from the 70’s till now; throw in a smattering of Monty Python, throw in a rubber chicken for good measure and you have some of the best entertainment for an evening you will ever encounter.

This link is the main page to the Cartwright website.

There is a lot of great stuff to learn about them.

Next is a link to Mark’s personal message (updated irregularly). Okoboji Iowa is one of the best places in the Midwest to spend a summer. When the guys were playing there and I was working with my mother and step father in their photography business, we had many a drunken night. One night in particular, Mark and I were walking around with a 12-pack and talking about life and women. We got back to the hotel room they were staying in and said “I really want you to hear the rough mix of the new CD we are putting out. Let me know what you think”. What transpired over the next 60 or so minutes was (as I put it before) something you just can’t describe. I have been listening to Mark’s work for almost 20 years now. I said without a doubt in my mind that this was some of his (and Jeff’s) best work. Peaking At Life quickly became a motto that I held close to my heart.
“Eternal Spring”: “…as hope springs eternal, we hope for eternal spring”;
“If These Walls Could Talk”: …..as I drive by and think of all that could be said…I simply break a smile and shake my head”
“I’m Alright”: “..so I put a tape in, from 1985, turn it up, kick on back and I’m feelin’ fine”
“Back In My Head”: “….the words ‘I love you’ were scawled over the Jackson, her signature where the face had been, and just like I had years before, I gambled her, away again”
(can you feel the goose bumps on my arm yet??)

Check em out…check out ITunes……and for heaven’s sake “HELL NO I AIN’T EATIN THOSE PEAS!”
