Happy July!

So here I am. My latest (and probably best performed) show is closing this weekend. I have had to make the incredibly difficult decision to turn down 3 different roles in other shows by directors I truly respect. The thing is, I am needing a break. But I love the acting so much…it is a very sucky position to be in. I really would love to do Odd Couple with my friend Gregory; I think it would be incredibly entertaining. Now to find someone to accommodate us!
Luckily, I am not stopping theater ‘cold turkey’. Big Idea Theater is asking me to help with technical/sound design. That isn’t too terribly difficult. Because that is another one of my deep rooted passions. I love production and editing and such.

Hmmm, what else. As usual, I have been missing home a lot. I had a great talk with my dad on my birthday (shame on all of you for not getting me ITunes Gift Certificates! Except Snow White because she got me a bottle of Gentleman Jack Bourbon!). We talked just about everything and nothing. Sharing music and swapping musical tastes with Dad is something I always love to do. He is mellowing out more lately so he is listening to more and more country lately. But that’s ok, because I actually have been liking some of the more recent country stuff out there.

Not sure if I mentioned it, but I have finally found a place that sells Arizona Arnold Palmer Tea/Lemonade; Sam’s Club! I would buy a pallet of the stuff if I had a place to store it! It is just so damn good and I didn’t even used to like tea!

And lastly, I am going to try to get new episodes of my podcast, Backstage Sacramento, going VERY soon! I created Backstage when I realized there were no podcasts that were geared specifically to the Sacramento Theater Community. There are 2 very short episodes out there on ITunes (link to come later) that are searchable I believe.

Much love to all; as always, I love that you guys/gals drop by to share my little peek at the world……

The End of Birthday Weekend '08

Well, faithful readers, it is EARLY Sunday morning. It has been a very relaxing 4 days off....I don't want it to end at all. The birthday festivities started off at Red Lobster (I know I know...very cliche). It was just a closer drive and there was only Greg, Jessica Snow White, Ash and myself. As I got out of the shower, I poured my first (of many) scotch's (Johnnie Walker Black). They were going down like a porn star on a day pass!
Red Lobster was fantastic and I even got a surprise visit from The Monkey.
The show Friday was good, but last night was off the chain! We had a great audience. I would say it was at about 90% capacity (complete with Elly judges and all!) We also video taped the show and am really looking forward to seeing that. This is all well and good except I was on decongestants so I had cotton mouth all night. AND it was so bad I even went to bed EARLY (11:30) which is unusual for me on a weekend so you can see how exhausted I was. We have a matinee today and then it will be laundry and resting up for Monday.

How Do You Know What To Do....

There is no book, no pamphlet, no instruction manual for boys growing into manhood for the tale I am about to tell.....I was raised as the good Catholic boy that I am today and nowhere along that road to becoming the man I am today was I prepared for what happened today.
I am in the courthouse, waiting to talk to one of the deputies. I am standing by the restrooms listening to some April Wine ("Wanna Rock" a great tune; totally irrellevant to this story) on my Ipod. This is uaually an excellent time to people watch because where I stand is right by 4 sets of elevators, the hub (if you will) of the different court rooms you can go to, and.....the restrooms. Here, faithful, eager reader, is where you hero's new experience will take place. As I watch the sea of people, America's melting pot if you will, I notice a woman leaving the restroom. As she turns away from me to walk to her destination, I am exposed to the vision of something I only thought was possible in TV or movies. Her dress was tucked into the top of her panty-hose. Now, my quandry. I hurriedly debate between telling the woman, "Excuse me! You can't dress yourself properly!", fumbling for my IPhone's camera feature, or finding another woman so I can say "hey, ya MIGHT want to tell her somethings up, downtown!" But instead, because I just don't know what is the RIGHT thing to do.....I watch her walk into the sea of people, heading to her destination........hopefully to be seen by her fellow woman in sisterhood so she can tell her what's going on!
I finish talking to the Deputy and head to the elevator. I still can't help but smile.....because.........it IS kind of funny to me still..........

The Past Few Days.....

So, I am not saying it in a derogatory manner. Hell, give me the word that would best describe it, and I'll use it........but I am having a very gay streak going on the past few days........I ashamely admit; I love the show Grey's Anatomy. I can't put my finger on it specifically, but I love the characters, most the story lines, and the gal that plays Dr. Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez) is just great eye candy in my eyes. It has happened where a particularly moving episode might even bring a tear to well up. The season finale was last night and it was pretty damn good. Nothing too earth shattering, but very entertaining.
So that leads us, dear reader, to today. I need shoes. I am also, somewhat picky when it comes to them, but I am in desperate need of some more dress shoes. So I did that at lunch. While leaving said shoe store, I saw the Bath and Body Works store across the way and recalled a hotel sample lotion I snagged. Orange Ginger. The smell was very citrusy and it seemed to work well. Yes, I use lotion.....

so there you have it.....a very (for lack of better term) gay few days for yours truely...........

Wild Dogs - Tommy Bolin

Check out this great tune by Tommy Bolin....

Baggage handcuffed to my wrist,
I drag it everywhere I go.
Sometimes I fight it with my fists,
If I knew which way was home,
It's where I'd go.
If I knew which way was home.

Porter come and cut me loose,
Bring that whiskey in my water.
Sometimes I get the blues,
But I know I shouldn't oughtta.
That's where I'd go.
If I knew which way was home.

Run down ghost town, no chance for love,
No sign of life - just wild dogs howlin' in the night.
That's what I like.
Hey porter come and cut me free,
I'm sick of my own company.
Sometimes I miss the gold,
Most times I miss my home.
That's where I'd go.
If I knew which way was home.
That's what I like

Guilty Pleasures!

I mean....here I was sitting.....just an ordinary day.....get up, go to work...come home...watch TV....I go to my trusted "friend", my computer.

The feeling came upon me......I kind of got a little warm.....I looked around and closed the door to my office.....I slowly pulled the blinds to stop the last few rays of the spring sunset.

Nervously, I reached for the mouse. Why o Why was I feeling so incredibly guilty. It's a natural feeling.

Breaths became deeper...heart racing.........then in a fleeting moment, it was done. The odd mixture of shame and excitement that comes from indulging in one's guilty "obsession";

My download of Poison covering Justin Timberlake's "Sexyback" was complete....and it really kinda rocked (I know Brad W. will just shake his head at this point)....

ok....so I am a little ashamed.....but I love cover songs......

Is it flipping Spring yet?

I know, I know...I am a tool. It has been ages since I updated this and I was determined at the beginning of the year that I wouldn't slack off on this.

So what's been going on lately? Well A Few Good Men closes this weekend. It will definitely be bittersweet. I will be glad that all the hard work is behind us, but this incredibly powerful show has really brought the cast of 15 or so together. Plus, it is a patriotic show. Truly it is. Sure they accidentally kill a guy, but it is the fine line of honor, code, and loyalty and ones self morals and beliefs that really give one pause. "Why do you love them so much?" "Because they stand a wall....and say that nothing is going to happen to you tonight.....not on my watch" It still makes the rest of the cast stop in place and get goose bumps. The Kaya delivers that line with such incredible conviction; it is an incredible moment in stage theater.

The Lucas' are looking for a house. With the buyers market the way it is, we decided it is about time to start the investing. And I can tell already it is going to be a long process!

I miss my family back in South Dakota and Iowa a lot. I miss my friends too. I was surprised to hear my best friend from high school was going to be in town for work for 3 days. Would have loved to see him, but I was struck with the death inducing flu for the whole week. So that was incredibly heart breakin gthat I didn't get to see him. On an upside, my friend Brad came across my email from a mutual friend and made contact. Brad is one of THE best frontmen in music as far as I am concerned! Back in the day........ahh memories..........

ok, that's it for now. I will try to post a picture or 3 soon....

I'm Outta here...

I really hope everyone can come see this show....it is one of the single most powerful stage productions I have been a part of.

Gene Simmons Sex Tape

Yes, I know already.....what a wake up when the top entertainment news item is that Gene Simmons has a sex tape released. Now granted....there are a ton of facets to this. One being, with all his stories of the women he has been with over the years, it is surprising this is the first we have heard about it. Second, this is disturbing!! Where even to begin with this? The T-shirt and socks he leaves on? The "I Want To Know What Love Is" song by Foreigner serenading the amormous couple. Gene looking like he is watching TV or something....it is ALL just wrong!

I mean this is one of the classic cases of "you don't tug on Superman's cape, ya don't pull the mask off the ol' Lone Ranger".....this just didn't need to be done!
Let Icons be Icons.....let him stay the God Of Thunder! Don't lump him in the same category as Paris Hilton and Skreech (yes, there is a tape of him out as well)

KISS are the comic icons come to life! Are they the best musicians out there; no. But go to a live show and you will NEVER EVER forget how fun it was.
I support Gene and will always stay a high ranking member of the KISS Army!

I'm Addicted (again)!

Well, I am hooked...AGAIN. Big Brother 9 on CBS has started and with a full on bang!
The house guests are paired up with people they don't know. Mainly boy/girl except for the obligatory boy/boy gay couple. One of the boys and one of the gals ARE a couple in the real world and it is just getting so damn good! Not only does CBS run it like 2-3 times a week, Showtime2 carries live feed from 9pm - 12am Pacific time!

how the F*$& am I going to get my lines memorized!!!?

The Grammy's

As some of the frequent readers and friends of this blog recall, I usually take great enjoyment in bagging all that is the Grammy's....but this year, it was REALLY hard!
I enjoyed it all! The performances were all spectacular! Some of the highlights for me were Cirque de Solei doing parts of Love by the Beatles and surprisingly, Amy Winehouse. Even with as much of a celebrity tabloid train wreck she has become of late, her performance via satellite of "You Know I'm No Good" (fitting don't you think) and "Rehab" (ditto) were right on the mark.

But, as always, one performance did not let down at all: the Foo Fighters. Dave Grohl is just so incredibly talented and the music is just THAT DAMN GOOD!

Now, let's just touch on Kanye West quickly; You Are Not All That, son! I can sympathize with his mother passing away, but his proclamation that the Grammy's was his was just the stuff vomit piles are made of...way to put a BLACK spot on an institution that will forever surpass your talent. Get A Grip!

Ok...that's it for this year's Grammy run down....short and sweet.....go get the new Foo Fighter cd if you don't have it!

Great SuperBowl & Thoughts

There was nothing about that Superbowl that sucked for me. The game was one of the best I can remember seeing. As far as the commercials, hard to say which was my favorite, but one of the most disturbing was where the heart popped out of the woman's chest for some web site company! The throwback to the Night At The Roxbury guys was hilarious. The Budweiser commercial with the Clydesdale training like Rocky was 'inspiring'.....

I don't know when it started, but some people seem to have this dislike for Dane Cook. To me, I don't get that. He is very funny and is the 'hip', cool, Gen-X'r we all aspire to be. So Saturday night, I decided to watch Employee Of The Month
despite hearing it sucked bad. And ya know what; It was funny and entertaining! I just don't get it, Dane Cook is very funny and very entertaining, PERIOD.

We are getting to about 3 weeks away from A Few Good Men opening. I am very excited about this show where I am playing The Judge! Stay tuned for me pimping myself out more on that!

It's 8:05, Time To Rock...

so you may be asking yourself, "Self, what are the Lucas' doing tonight"....Well Mrs. Lucas and I and the Smith's are heading to Hangar 17 for some GUITAR HERO 3 Tournament fun and frivolity!

SLACKER!!

GAWDDAAMNIT I am a SLACKER!! I wanted SO bad to be better about daily posing. Then when I got sick, I just couldn't think of anything witty to say....

so let's see.....The Lucas' and The Smiths' have been having a blast playing Guitar Hero....we even hear there is a tournament at Hangar 17 on Wednesdays!
If I don't have Few Good Men rehearsals, I am SO seriously thinking of going!

And speaking of A Few Good Men....we are set to get deep deep DEEP into rehearsals very soon. I am firmly convinced this is going to be the a breakthrough role for me. Everyone is so used to the children's theater/funny wacky neighbor character I am always typecast as.....being Judge Randolph will be a very interesting change.

Other than that....blah blah blah....my last ITunes library count is at 11,651 songs/effects/mixes (which is tabulated to about 32.9 days of straight music and 57.77Gigs of music. Thankfully, I got Team Lucas a 1 TB
(1 terrabyte=1000Gigs) external hard drive to store things on.

ok...time for some more Guitar Hero with Mrs Lucas......

OUT!

I don't "do" sick well....I try not to be a whiny pain in the ass, but.....ya just gotta sometimes.....

So I spent the day playing poker online and sleeping.....the IPhone had an update today ... whopppeee....hope everyone dug the pics I sent Saturday; it was a lot of fun!

Longest day of 08 (so far!) is done! Leaving old sac in my rear view
and heading home ..... As long as I made someone smile, laugh, or just
will be a story at their work on Monday, it was all worth it. Thanks
mom for the mojo, I love you!

W

At Suspects finally!
Well its 5:25 and my day is half over. Feet are a bit sore and eyes
heavy because the noxema to take off the step sister makeup is so strong

Before makeup

Heading to the theater. Mom, just ignore the speedometer!

Starting off with breakfast supplies!! Nobody should be out this early!!

I Am A Theater Whore!

I can't help it. I am pretty sure there are no 12 step programs for this particular affliction; but I just love theater. Today, will test my boundaries (along with most of my sanity).

I at least went to bed at a fairly decent hour (11P) and I am now wide awake thinking of all today will hold in store:
8:00 - Grocery store to get pot luck items for final dress rehearsal
9:00 - Final Dress rehearsal for Cinderella (final check for make-up, costumes, props, sanity)
12:00 - First performance complete with meet and greet. Kids dig that
1:15 - Recheck Sanity levels, consume water to replenish fluids
2:00 - Second showing (2 down, 6 to go) complete with 2nd meet and greet (new set of kids so they will still dig us. hopefully we will have sanity and be not TOO 'gamey')
3:15 - Cake on Noxema to get the layers of step sister make up off
3:45 - Hop into the Lucas7 mobile and head to Old Sacramento
4:00 - Set up for private Suspects show
4:01 - Maybe have one beer to....well...you know.....that Sanity thing again
5:30 - Private Suspects show
7:30 - Close show, then reset everything. Kick back and laugh at the wait staff
8:00 - Second private show of Suspects seats
8:30 - Show starts, consider one more 'adult beverage'
10:30 - Close up shop and drive to the Casa de Lucas
11:00 - try not to twitch uncontrollably.......

Hope you are having a great day....I will try to update the blog LIVE via pictures from the IPhone.......and a special "shout out" to Jerry back in my old stomping grounds.....We Will Get Together next time I am in the area!

Testing This Out...

A collage of pictures from Ghost Writer!

Happy New Year!

Well we made it to 2008! I am looking forward to many things in '08, but one is getting back to consistent blogging!
NYE was spent with 2 other great couples (Greg & Shaleen and Jen & V). Lots of food, laughs, booze and Guitar Hero made for just a nice evening.
At midnight, we shot off some fireworks I had left over from 4th of July and we had champagne and made many toasts to those we love, care, admire, and miss......then fell asleep around 1:30.....
we are all slowly waking up to a new year.....breakfast I am sure is in the future....so here is a belated CHEERS to everyone.....

Happy New Year!
